16. Bhagavad Gita. C4.Part I, Q1.M2
Listen to audio teaching with Goswami Kriyananda. Answer the following questions:
1. What are the two types of spiritual discipline (yoga) taught by Krishna to Arjuna?
*
A) Hatha Yoga (the yoga of physical postures) and Bhakti Yoga (the yoga of pure devotion).
B) Jnana Yoga (the pathway of knowledge/wisdom) and Karma Yoga (the pathway of action/doing your duty).
C) Raja Yoga (the yoga of meditation) and Mantra Yoga (the yoga of chanting).
E) Veda Yoga (the yoga of reading scriptures) and Guru Yoga (the yoga of serving the master).
2. How does each function bring us to self awareness?
*
A) By proving to the world that we are smarter and harder working than everyone else.
B) The path of knowledge leads to self-awareness when the sheer weight of accumulated data collapses, making one aware of the "knower" (and how little one actually knows); the path of action leads to self-awareness because performing duty detachedly settles the mind, giving it placidity so one can see oneself clearly.
C) They both force the individual into a state of physical exhaustion so the mind has no choice but to surrender to the guru.
D) The path of knowledge brings self-awareness by memorizing every ancient text perfectly, while the path of action brings self-awareness by earning enough money to buy freedom.
E) They don't bring self-awareness; they are only meant to punish the student for their past karma.
3. Why is it impossible to approach God-consciousness directly?
*
A) Because God-consciousness requires a financial donation that most people cannot afford.
B) Because God is deliberately hiding from humanity to test our faith.
C) Because our mind and brain are made of matter (prakriti), which has no consciousness and is constantly fluctuating through cycles (gunas) of meaninglessness, leaving us in a state of ignorance and unawareness of the true Self (Purusha).
D) Because only people born in ancient India have the genetic capacity to experience God-consciousness.
E) Because the Oversoul refuses to speak to earthlings unless they first memorize the Bhagavad Gita.
