The Serpent Power
In this fascinating lecture, Goswami Kriyananda gives an overview of kundalini yoga. He describes how the six astral chakras relate to the awakening of the kundalini. The chakras are a system of mass energy converters. Kundalini energy, which resides in the Saturn chakra, is awakened and rises through the chakras. Goswami stresses that the kundalini experience is non-emotional. As the energy rises and touches the petals of the chakras, they manifest energy. “The whole problem, yogically, is that we’re suffering because we are limited,” says Goswami. “Within that limitation, the state of consciousness produces ignorance. If we activate the energies and sweep them up through the chakras, the pattern is perceived and understanding comes.” With enough perception, you see how to solve the problem of suffering. “Once we bring the energy up, we can do things. Call it divine energies, or yoga siddhi. It’s not magic. It’s very natural.” In this lecture, Goswami refers to Sir John Woodroffe’s book The Serpent Power: Being the Shat-Chakra-Nirupana and Paduka-Panchaka. Published in 1919, it is a translation of two ancient yogic texts. Goswami says, “What life is about, according to this book, is what is the song of God? How can I play God’s song? Mystically, life is the search for the true song of God.”
